“Love is anterior to life, posterior to death, initial of creation, and the exponent of breath.”
- Emily Dickinson
Intimacy is the awareness of essence in oneself. The deepest expression of this truth is always love. Breath is the animating force that allows each individual to stay alive and experience this material world. The second way in which the life force flows through all animals is through the magnetism of sexual energy. Without it, there would be no continuation of humanity. Sexuality is powerful and has the potential to create new life. It is also the prime force behind relationships. It is the invisible life force that pulls people together.
Relationship begins with self and is reflected in relationships with others. Intimate relationships require us to become more intimate with ourselves as we grow with our partner. There is perfection in the design of this truth because it provides a container for each one of us to go deeper and deeper into our own essence, where there is only love.
This understanding is always a work in progress though. When a couple decides to spend time together, there are two people with different desires, beliefs, thoughts, and emotions. Usually there is a polarity which means there are noticeable differences between them. Because this is a direct reflection of each partner in the relationship, it provides the perfect mirror. Making a commitment to be with someone is the same as making a commitment to look deep into our own essence. The person you choose to be with, will always reflect to you how solid your connection to your deepest core is. In other words, relationships are for learning, enjoying, and sharing who we are. Intimate relationships are for learning what love is, enjoying love, and sharing deeper levels of love with another.
To the extent that particular areas of mind and emotion are not open to the experience of love, there will be blockages in the breath and in the body. By altering our breathing pattern, we can begin to open up to the what love is. Another word for love is “oneness”.
The teachings of intimacy is not new. There are plenty of love psychologists and books about love, sex, and relationships. The most powerful method of realizing love, however, is to use the gifts of the creator. Sexual energy is the natural flow of energy that brings what is separate together. Breath animates all of life and can be used to open up the mind, the heart, and the body, so that oneness between two sacred lovers is possible. When we integrate the two types of life force (sexuality and breath) into one powerful source, we become one within and with our partner.
“Matter is love that has manifested itself in order to have a relationship with itself.”
- Wayne Tooker
“When two lovers are really open to each other, when they are not afraid of each other and not hiding anything from each other, that is intimacy.”
- OSHO
